Rounding Up the Anime News From MCM London ComicCon

The latest iteration of MCM ComicCon- the UK's biggest regular modern pop culture event-  took place in London this past weekend. As usual, all the UK's specialist anime distributors were in attendance. This time around Manga Entertainment chose not to hold a panel or make any new announcements, but there was still plenty of news to go around!

Anime Limited

Anime Limited's recent major push in theatrical anime is going to step up a gear in the coming months. In fact, they will be releasing a film in UK cinemas nearly every month.
  • July will see the release of Genocidal Organ,  the Project Itoh film produced by Samurai Champloo studio Manglobe.
  • August will see Kenji Kamiyama's Napping Princess (aka Ancien and The Magic Tablet) in UK cinemas. Later in the month the smash hit Your Name will return to cinemas, including a number of subtitled screenings in IMAX for the first time.
  • September will see the Masaaki Yuasa directed romcom Night Is Short, Walk On Girl.
  • October: Halloween will see a 20th anniversary re-release for Satoshi Kon's classic psychological thriller Perfect Blue.
  • Masaaki Yuasa's second film of 2017 Lu Over The Wall will be released in UK cinemas in November.
  • Studio Shaft's feature Fireworks, Should We See It From The Side Or The Bottom? (yes, that's really what it's called) is scheduled for an unspecified 2017 date to be confirmed.
Outside of the theatrical side of things, AL also made a number of announcements relating to home releases.

  • Kyoto Animation series Hyouka will be coming to Collector's Edition Blu-ray and DVD starting with Part 1 in Q3 of 2017.
  • Wolf's Rain will get the collector's edition Blu-ray treatment, coming in Q4 2017.
