GKIDS Films Picks Up "The Big Bad Fox & Other Tales"

A short while ago, we reported on the release of an English subtitled trailer of  The Big Bad Fox & Other Tales, a beautiful looking French 2D animation from StudioCanal and one of the co-directors of the Oscar nominated Ernest & Celestine. "It looks, quite frankly, adorable, and we hope for an English language release soon" we said back in July.

It turns out that US and Canadian audiences won't have that long to wait, as the ever reliable GKIDS Films have picked up the film for theatrical release this Winter.

Premiering at this year's Annecy Festival before a French cinema release in June, Benjamin Renner and Patrick Imbert's film is based on Renner's graphic novel The Big Bad Fox (available in the US via First Second Publishing). The screenplay was adapted by Renner himself alongside Jean Regnaud. In our previous report we speculated the film would be episodic, and indeed it comprises of three separate stories taking place on an everyday farm. Here's the official synopsis:

The countryside isn't always as calm and peaceful as it's made out to be, and the animals on this farm are particularly agitated: a fox who mothers a family of chicks, a rabbit who plays the stork, and a duck who wants to be Santa Claus. If you think life in the country is a walk in the park, think again!

"The first time I saw The Big Bad Fox & Other Tales, I left the theatre grinning from ear-to-ear,"  David Jesteadt,  GKIDS President said. "I'm thrilled to be able to share that experience with audiences across North America."

More release information will be announced at a later time. No UK release has been announced, but we would expect a release from StudioCanal themselves to follow at some point.
