Disney Reveal Full Cast For CGI 'The Lion King' Remake

John Favreau's remake (don't say live-action) of the beloved The Lion King is due to hit cinemas in 2019. Up until now, we've been gradually getting bits of casting news or rumours related to casting for the new film. We knew that Donald Glover would play Simba, Chiwetel Ejiofor would play Scar, and James Earl Jones would reprise his iconic role of Mufasa. This week Disney has officially announced the full main cast, via the following image released via social media.

The Full cast is:
Donald Glover as Simba
• Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala
• James Earl Jones as Mufasa
• Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar
• Alfre Woodard as Sarabi
• John Oliver as Zazu
• John Kani as Rafiki
• Seth Rogen as Pumbaa
• Billy Eichner as Timon
• Eric Andre as Azizi
• Florence Kasumba as Shenzi
• Keegan-Michael Key as Kamari
• JD McCrary as Young Simba
• Shahadi Wright Joseph as young Nala

The film will use the same technology used to bring the recent remake of The Jungle Book to phot-realistic life. This time though, there will presumably be no human characters at all.  Team AFA are split on how successful Favreau's take on The Jungle Book actually was- some of us big fans, some of us really weren't. so we're interested in seeing how this one will turn out. Whether you are looking forward to this with excitement or apprehension though, it's hard to deny that this is an impressive cast.

The first footage was shown at D23 this year, where it apparently got quite the positive reaction. Hopefully, it won't be too much longer before the public at large get to see it too.

The Lion King will be released in summer 2019
