'Mary And The Witch's Flower' Earns Encore US Theatrical Screenings

Studio Ponoc's Mary And The Witch's Flower is to return to US cinemas for an encore two-night engagement thanks to GKIDS Films and Fathom Events. Hiromasa Yonebayashi's film originally screened for exclusive previews via Fathom at the end of January, before a more traditional GKIDS release. Over the course of the screenings, the film took in $1.9 million- making it the biggest theatrical release in GKIDS' history.

Mary And The Witch's Flower is Yonebayashi's first film since leaving Studio Ghibli, and reunites him with several ex-Ghibli staff, including producer and  Ponoc co-founder Yoshiaki Nishimura, and screenwriter Riko Sakaguchi.

Mary is an ordinary young girl stuck in the country with her Great-Aunt Charlotte and seemingly no adventures or friends in sight. She follows a mysterious cat into the nearby forest, where she discovers an old broomstick and the strange Fly-by-Night flower, a rare plant that blossoms only once every seven years and only in that forest. Together the flower and the broomstick whisk Mary above the clouds, and far away to Endor College - a school of magic run by headmistress Madam Mumblechook and the brilliant Doctor Dee. But there are terrible things happening at the school, and when Mary tells a lie, she must risk her life to try to set things right.

If you missed it the first time- or just want to see it again, the film will be screening for two nights: Saturday, February 24 (English dubbed) and Monday, February 26 (Original language with subtitles). Find a screening and book your ticket here.

Mary And The Witch's Flower will be released in the UK on May 18.
