Netflix Reveal First 'Hilda' Trailer

Hilda is a forthcoming animated Netflix series based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Luke Pearson. When the streaming giant showed off their animated slate at this year's Annecy festival, this series was a major part of the presentation. The debut episodes also screened at this year's New York International Children's Film Festival.

The first full trailer has now been revealed- and it's clear just why Netflix seems to be so proud of this series.

Following Hilda's adventures, as she moves to Trolberg, the trailer is full of magic, wonder and captivating imagery.  Animation studio Mercury Imageworks (co-producing with Silvergate Media) have done a wonderful job of capturing the source material's picturebook style. Think a European spin on Adventure Time and it looks like you wouldn't be too far off the mark.

And while the trailer suggests a charming series that's full of fun, the writers have also promised that they will push some boundaries for a "kid's show", aiming to be emotional and even scary at times. All in all, this looks like another fine addition to Netflix's growing animated library.

The 13 episodes first season will be available on Netflix everywhere from September 21, 2018. Check out the trailer below.

Hilda follows the adventures of a fearless blue-haired girl as she travels from her home in a vast magical wilderness full of elves and giants, to the bustling city of Trolberg, where she meets new friends and mysterious creatures who are stranger - and more dangerous - than she ever expected.
