'Weathering With You' Gets Fan Preview Screenings January 15, 16

Following its US premiere at this month's Animation Is Film Festival- where it won the audience award- Makoto Shinkai's new feature Weathering With You has been confirmed for a US release in January 2020. GKIDS have previously announced the film will open on January 17. It turns out though, that many fans are going to have a chance to see it even earlier.

GKIDS Films are teaming up with Fathom Events to present a special Fan Preview screenings on January 15 and 16. Assuming it follows the typical pattern for GKIDS event screenings, expect one date to be screening with subtitles, the other with the English dub. Tickets will go on sale on November 15.

GKIDS and Fathom Events proudly present a two-night fan preview screening of the highly-anticipated new film from director Makoto Shinkai and producer Genki Kawamura, the creative team behind the critically-acclaimed, global smash hit Your Name.
The summer of his high school freshman year, Hodaka runs away from his remote island home to Tokyo, and quickly finds himself pushed to his financial and personal limits. The weather is unusually gloomy and rainy every day, as if to suggest his future. He lives his days in isolation, but finally finds work as a writer for a mysterious occult magazine. Then one day, Hodaka meets Hina on a busy street corner. This bright and strong-willed girl possesses a strange and wonderful ability: the power to stop the rain and clear the sky…

Shinkai's film has already become one of Japan's most successful movie releases of all time and will be submitted both for Best Animated feature and as Japan's entry for Best International Film at the 2020 Oscars.  Anime Limited will release the film in the UK and Ireland on January 17.
