Watch This! Pokemon: Twilight Wings Miniseries

Over the last decade, the Pokemon franchise has been expanding the scope of their animated projects. These projects such as the Origins anime and the Pokemon Generations mini series showed the world of Pokemon and the characters who live there in a different light than what has been previously featured in the ongoing Pokemon anime.

However, their latest project seems to be continuing the trend of pushing the boundaries of stories told in this strange world of trainable monsters.

"Pokémon: Twilight Wings, which is separate from Pokémon the Series, is set in the Galar region, where Pokémon battles have developed into a cultural sensation. Over the span of seven episodes, Pokémon: Twilight Wings will show in detail the dreams of Galar's residents, the realities they face, the challenges they must overcome, and the conflicts they must resolve. In addition to these new stories, you can expect to see a variety of Pokémon originally discovered in the Galar region appearing throughout the capsule series." - Pokemon.com

What really caught me off guard in the first episode of this mini series is how down to earth it feels. The story is heartfelt and grounded in real world drama. Which is not something Pokemon is typically associated with, but it pulls off with flying colors. The animation, provided by the staff at Studio Colorido (the studio behind Penguin Highway) is nothing short of breath taking. Both Pokemon and people are animated in such a way that feels more alive that ever before. Special mention also needs to go to the lighting and backgrounds, which given a great amount of detail even for just a 6 minute episode.

If you haven't already given it at watch, I highly recommend doing so if you have any fondness for Pokemon. Expect the next six episodes to drop on the Pokemon Youtube Channel every month from here on out.
