Annecy Awards 'Calamity', 'Undone' , 'Turtle's Journey' And More

This year's Annecy International Animation Festival might be virtual, but the organisers wanted as much as possible to recreate the experience of the traditional event. And so, although the online festival will remain accessible until the end of the month, the festival has already had its 'closing ceremony', the event where the winners of the competition are revealed. The ceremony took place across two nights, symbolically taking place on the dates that they would have taken place in Annecy itself had the festival not have to move online.

This year's winners come from a diverse range of countries including France, Russia, China, Latvia, Poland, Canada, the US, The UK and Belgium. A number of co-productions also won prizes. French filmmakers were involved in six of the winning projects, films from the United Kindom won three, and the United States won two.

Director Rémi Chayé won the coveted Cristal For A Feature Film for his Long Way North follow up, Calamity:a Childhood of Martha Jane Cannary.  The film is inspired by the early life of historical figure Calamity Jane. The Jury Award went to Russian feature The Nose or the Conspiracy of Mavericks and Poland's Kill It And Leave This Town one the Jury Distinction.

In the Contrechamps category, the Cristal went to Latvia-Norway coproduction My Favourite War. The Shaman Sorceress, from South Korea's Jae-huun Ahn was awarded the Jury Distinction in the category.

Elsewhere, Amazon's first adult animated original Undone won in the TV Jury Award For Series, for the episode The Hospital.  The Juried Award for a TV Special went to The Tiger Who Came To Tea, the adaptation of the beloved Children's book from Britain's Lupus Films.

The full list of winners is below. You can also watch the ceremonies on the Annecy YouTube channel.
