Glen Keane's 'Over The Moon' First Trailer Takes Off
Netflix has been doing an incredible job of assembling an incredible line-up of the biggest talents in animation. Both big names like Henry Selick, Guillermo Del Toro, Alex Hirsch and Nora Twomey, and up and comers are producing a growing slate new films or series for Netflix Animation. The streaming powerhouse has been making waves with animated series for some time, but recently arrived on the feature scene, with Oscar nominated Klaus and The Willoughbys making quite a splash.
Later this year another animated feature will be joining them, and based on the first trailer, doesn't look like it's going to draw any less attention. Over The Moon is produced by the China based animation company Pearl Studio, formally known as DreamWorks Oriental, their second major release after last year's Abominable. More exciting for animation enthusiasts though is the fact that animation legend Glen Keane is in the director's chair.
Keane was responsible for character animation and designs on numerous Disney films, including some of the best films of the renaissance era, namely The Little Mermaid, Beauty and The Beast and Aladdin. He has directed a handful of shorts, including the Oscar and Annnie winning Dear Basketball (made with the late Kobe Bryant), but Over The Moon is his feature debut.
Although the film will be primarily CG, the trailer also features glances of some beautiful 2D animation, which recalls Keane's classic work. The CG is also looking very impressive, with strong character animation and some appealing designs.
Fueled with determination and a passion for science, a bright young girl builds a rocket ship to the moon to prove the existence of a legendary Moon Goddess. Directed by Oscar®-Winning Filmmaker & Animator, Glen Keane, and produced by Gennie Rim and Peilin Chou. Starring Cathy Ang, Phillipa Soo, Robert G. Chiu, Ken Jeong, John Cho, Ruthie Ann Miles, Margaret Cho, Kimiko Glenn, Artt Butler and Sandra Oh.
The trailer is an emotional rollercoaster, drawing us in with some heartwarming family moments, before swerving into tear-jerking territory and then cheering us up with some adventure, comedy, a touch of music, a dragon and one adorable rabbit. Seriously, that's one insanely cute bunny.
Over The Moon will touch down on Netflix everywhere (excluding China) this autumn/fall. Watch the trailer below.
