The Emmy Awards are known as the Oscars of the TV world.
But as well as the main, "primetime" Emmys, there are also other events
throughout the year that celebrate different aspects of the TV industry. The
organisation responsible, The National Academy Of Television Arts and Sciences has just revealed the nominees for the 2021 edition of the
Daytime Emmy's Childrens, Animation and Lifestyle Categories.
The Daytime Emmy Awards Children’s Programming and Animation ceremony
will be presented in a standalone ceremony to be streamed online Saturday, July 17, at 8 PM Eastern time.
There's a question to be asked by what exactly counts as "daytime" or
"primetime" in an age of streaming and on-demand viewing. Whatever the
criteria were they used, there are plenty of nominations here for
Netflix, Amazon, HBO Max, Disney Plus and for the first time
Apple, alongside more traditional broadcasters like
Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Disney Channel and PBS. The
nominations are fairly evenly spread so it doesn't really feel like any one
company is dominating.
These awards are important to the US animation industry, as outside of the
Annie Awards, it's rare for aspects such as writing, directing or sound
in animation to be recognised. Typically, mainstream ceremonies only recognise
animation in a best animated film, series or short category and are shut out
elsewhere. Here though, they are celebrated and don't have to compete with
live-action programs.
The Adventures Of Paddington, Stillwater, Animaniacs, Star Wars: The Clone
Wars, Hilda and Adventure Time: Distant Lands are among the shows with multiple nominations. Check out the full
