Fena Pirate Princess: New Trailer, Cast, and Release Date Announced

Anime streaming site Crunchyroll and US broadcast network Adult Swim have been teaming up with top Japanese talent to co-produce brand new anime. The two companies are (for now at least) both owned by WarnerMedia and complement each other nicely- Crunchyroll operates primarily in online video, while Adult Swim's bread and butter is traditional over-the-air TV. Their first two joint projects Blade Runner: Black Lotus and Fena: Pirate Princess are due out this year.

More details are emerging gradually over time, with a closer look set for this weekend's upcoming San Diego Comic-Con At Home. Crunchyroll and Adult Swim have this week revealed more details, cast, images and a final release date for the latter show.

Fena: Pirate Princess is being produced together with famed animation studio Production IG. Creator and director Kazuto Nakazawa described the samurai swashbuckler as being heavily influenced by Shojo manga with a hefty dose of romance. It's been revealed that the series with arrive on Saturday, August 14 and will launch with a special two-episode premiere. Adult Swim will air the English dubbed version of the series in the US while Crunchyroll will stream the original language version worldwide (excluding Japan). Where the dubbed version will land for English-speaking audiences outside of the US is still to be revealed.

Accompanying the announcement is the revealing of the English language cast of the show:

Fena Houtman  (Brittany Cox). "A positive, cheerful orphan despite her traumatic past. Known for her pale skin and glowing silver hair."

Yukimaru (Robb Moreira). "The introverted, katana-wielding bodyguard of the Houtman family. He is extremely protective of Fena."

Karin will be voiced by Anjali Kunapaneni: Raised by a family of blacksmiths, Karin geeks out over technology like her rifle, which she uses to great effect in battle".

Enju ( Brandon Winckler) ."Kaede’s elder twin. They both use a spear and wakizashi in battle, they’re both friendly and mischievous, but Enju feels he’s more dependable than his younger brother."

Kaede (Darrel J Delfin). "Enju’s younger twin. They both use a spear and wakizashi in battle, they’re both friendly and mischievous, but Kaede feels he’s more manly than his elder brother."

Tsubaki  (Alan Lee) "The oldest and most mature member of the group, he manages everyone’s wild energy. He’s also the cook, but when he fights, he uses a short ninja sword."

Makaba (Thomas E Wynn) "This mountain of a boy prefers fighting in close quarters with brass knuckles. When he’s not fighting, he’s kind-hearted and mild-mannered."

Salman (Frank Todaro). "An older knight who was once called “Salman the Onslaught” for being so deadly with a spear. He’s known Fena since she was a girl as he served the Houtman family for some time."

Otto (Doug Stone). "Another older knight who served the Houtman family and possessed an intimidating nickname in his younger days—"Otto the Blitz” for his quick swordplay."
