'Arcane', 'What If...?', 'Love Death & Robots' Among Emmy Animation Nominees.

When it comes to television awards, The Primetime Emmys are still the biggest game in town. This year's nominations have been announced this week, and some in the animation world have something to celebrate.

The Oustanding Animated Program award often sees several of the same shows cropping up year after year. As such, it's no surprise to see The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers and Rick and Morty all pick up nominations. Two debut shows have also scored nominations- Netflix's Arcane and Disney Plus's What If..? round out the field.

In the Outstanding Animated Short Form Program animated anthologies rule the roost. There are nominations for the third volume of Love Death and Robots alongside the debut seasons of Star Wars Visions and The Boys: Diabolical. The nominees are rounded out by frequent nominee Robot Chicken and The Simpsons short, When Billie Met Lisa,

The Outstanding Character Voice Performance category is typically dominated by animation, but this year also includes two live-action series. F Murray Abraham is nominated for his vocal performance in Marvel's Moon Knight, while Julie Andrews is nominated for her contribution to Bridgerton. This year's nominations also have a bittersweet feel to them as both Chadwick Boseman (for What If..?) and Jessica Walter (Archer) have been given posthumous nominations. Rounding out the pack are Jeffery Wright (another nomination for What If..?) and Stanley Tucci (Apple TV Plus's Central Park).

The 74th Emmy Awards will take place on Monday, September 12.
