Watch This: The Legend of Pipi

Fairy stories have long been a popular subject for animation but every so often one comes along that shows there's still new stories to be told. Enter The Legend Of Pipi (pronounced Pee Pee) an original, mildly bonkers and straight-up adorable yarn.

Once upon a time in the Cat Kingdom, the Cat Princess has been carried away by a horrifying monster. Distraught, the (Lion) King put out a call to find a hero who could bring her back to him. The only volunteer turns out to be Pipi, a tiny and particularly scraggly looking specimen (and a dead ringer for Pixars' Kitbull). The King is decidedly unimpressed.

But Pipi is much more formidable than he appears. He's brave, tenacious and cunning. He may be small in stature, but he has the heart and soul of an adventurer. This has a similar vibe to the recent hit anime Ranking Of Kings, which similarly has a hero who appears to be weak but is anything but.

It's a cute and funny short with an extremely appealing visual style. The monster designs are top notch, too. Despite the modest running time, The Cat Kingdom is richly drawn and by the time the credits roll, you'll be wanting to pay a return visit.

The Legend Of Pipi was created by Julia Schoel, and directed by Julia Schoel and Brigit "Pollo" Uhlig. This is definitely a team worth keeping an eye on... we can't wait to see what they come up with next!
