Shout Factory and Eleven Arts Releasing DEEMO Memorial Keys This March

Movies and TV series based on video games have never had the best reputation. Things are finally changing with live-action adaptations like The Last Of Us and Sonic The Hedgehog and animation like Arcane and Castlevania. Anime meanwhile has a long history of adapting games with some success ranging from Street Fighter II The Animated Movie to the recent Nier: Automata.

Shout Factory and Eleven Arts have announced the release of DEEMO Memorial Keys, based on the mobile rhythm game. The CG animated film is produced by the renowned Production IG (Ghost In The Shell) and Signal.MD (Birthday Wonderland)

The film centres on Deemo, a lonely figure who lives alone playing a piano in a castle. Until one day Alice, a girl who has lost her memory, falls from the sky. Determined to help her recover her memories and return to her world, Deemo discovers a tree kept on top of his piano grows whenever it is played. If he succeeds in helping her to go home will the loss of her companionship prove to be too much?

The original DEEMO game was released for iOS and Android in 2013 by Taiwanese developer Rayark. It went on to rack up more than 28 million downloads and was ported to PS Vita, PC, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. A sequel was announced in 2022.

DEEMO Memorial Keys is directed by Shuhei Matsushita, with Junichi Fujisaku as general director. The screenplay is by Junichi Fujisaku and Bun-o Fujisawa. . Yuki Kajiura created the film's theme song and Mebachi provided the character designs.
