[Anime Expo] Viz Tease 'Zom 100', 'Bleach The Thousand Year Blood War' and More


The first (long) weekend of July saw the 2023 edition of Anime Expo, North America's biggest anime convention. Held in Los Angeles, the event attracts the biggest names in anime, as well as thousands of fans. Among the companies in attendance was Viz Media.

On July 1, Viz hosted the world premiere of the first episode of Zom 100: Bucket List Of The Dead. Original manga artist Kotaro Takata was in attendance and offered an insight into how he draws the series. Also there to join the fun were English voice actors Zeno Robinson, Abby Trott, and Laura Post who shared funny stories from the recording booth. 

Zom 100: Bucket List Of The Dead is based on the manga by creators Haro Aso and Kotaro Takata and will stream on Netflix and Hulu in the United States. The series will be simulcast starting 02:00 AM PDT on July 9, with other streaming services to be announced. The series is a Viz Media production in association with Shogakukan and Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions Japan.

At the Viz Media panel, they were joined again by Zom 100 artist Kotaro Takata and Japanese voice actor Masakazu Morita (the original voice of Ichigo in Bleach). At the panel attendees got to hear what was coming up in the most popular shows such as My Hero Academia, Chainsaw Man and Spy x Family and more.

They discussed the Shonen Jump app, where fans can read the latest chapter of the latest manga on the same day as Japan. Additionally, the most recent 3 chapters are available for free, with many more series to come. Shonen Jump members can unlock the vault, and read up to 100 chapters a day of more than 15,000 manga chapters.

Captain Tsubasa: Junior Youth Arc, a new anime based on the football manga by Yoichi Takahashi will air this October.

A new Naruto one-shot from legendary manga artist Masashi Kishimoto is coming July 17. Naruto Shippuden is also coming to Blu-Ray for the first time.

Upcoming Autumn manga and book titles include Akane-Banashi, The Art of Demonslayer: Kimitsu No Yaiba The Anime, Heart Gear, Blade Moon Princess, BLEACH: The Official Anime Coloring Book, Naruto Shippuden: The Official Coloring Book, Jujutsu Kaisen: The Official Anime Guide, The Promised Neverland Complete Box Set, and Chainsaw Man Box Set Vols 1 -11.

At the Bleach panel,  attendees were treated to a sneak preview of Bleach: The Thousand-Year Blood War Part 2.  It was announced that a pop-up Bleach Cafe is association with Matte Black will open at 8500 Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles.

The Thousand-Year Blood War Part 2 will air on Hulu in the US, Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ in select territories from Saturday, July 8. It will premiere in Japanese, English and Latin American Spanish and with English, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, and Italian subtitles.
