Crunchyroll Picks Up 'Spy x Family: Code White' Movie


 It's inevitable that any anime TV series that is popular enough heads to the big screen eventually. Sometimes they are original stories, sometimes they are recaps. Some franchises even get both. The latest hit series to get a movie that is heading to western cinemas is Spy X Family.

Crunchyroll has aquired North American and select global theatrical rights to Spy X Family: Code White.  The film is the first feature spin-off for the franchise. The second season is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.

Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment will bring the film to cinemas in North America in 2024. It will be available both in original language with subtitles and with English dub. In addition to North America, Crunchyroll will also release the film in Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and select territories in Europe, including Austria, Benelux, France, Germany, Italy, the Nordics, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland.

Based on the manga by Harvey and Eisner Award-nominated manga written and illustrated by Tatsuya Endo, the series follows ace spy Twilght (A,K.A. Loid Forger) and his "family". His wife is an undercover assassin. Neither spouse is aware of the others' secret- but their telepathic adopted 'daughter' is.

First airing in April 2022, the series quickly became a firm favourite with fans around the world. The second season followed on October 7 2023.

Code White is a new original story. It features the 'family' heading off on a winter holiday, that is a cover for Loid's latest mission. But his mission is put in peril when Anya mistakenly gets involved and triggers events that thereaten world peace.

The film is directed by Takashi Katagiri and written by Ichiro Okouchi. Animation is by Wit Studio and Cloverworks.
