The Garfield Movie First Trailer Arrives

Everyone knows Garfield. Even if you've never read his comic strip or seen one of his animated series, pretty much everyone is familiar with the original grumpy cat. He first hit the big screen in a pair of live-action/animation hybrid features starring Bill Murray. Now he's about to make his debut in his first fully animated feature- and the first trailer has arrived.

The trailer introduces us to Garfield as a kitten and shows us his first meeting with his owner Jon. Even when he was tiny though, he still had an outsized appetite. We then fast forward to modern day Garfield, where the mischievous moggie gets up to all sorts of mischief... more often not driven by his stomach.

When it was announced that Garfield would be voiced by Chris Pratt there was some controversy. It seems unwarranted though as based on the trailer it seems he brings his affable everyman (everycat) charm to the role. In the movie Garfield will be reunited with his Dad, Vic voiced by Samuel L Jackson. Garfield and his canine companion Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered lives and on to a high-stakes heist.

The Garfield Movie also stars Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén, Brett Goldstein and Bowen Yang.

It is directed by Mark Dindal, from a screenplay by Paul A. Kaplan, Mark Torgove and David Reynolds, based on the Garfield characters by Jim Davis.

The producers are John Cohen, Broderick Johnson, Andrew A. Kosove, Steven P. Wegner, Craig Sost, Namit Malhotra and Crosby Clyse. It's produced by Columbia Pictures and Alcon and will be distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. Animation production is by DNEG.

The film is due to be released in cinemas in the US and UK on May 24, 2024.
