Annecy: Arcane Ending With Season 2, New Trailer Drops

Animation fans will likely know that this week sees the Annecy International Animation Festival.  For the week, the alpine French town becomes a hotbed of animation activity. Animation activity from around the world are in town to show off their films and series, whether finished or in production. One of the most hotly anticipated W.I.P sessions was for League Of Legends: Arcane Season 2.

A new trailer was revealed, giving us our first proper look at the new season. Fans have been waiting a long time since the first season dropped on Netflix back in 2021. But the news is bittersweet, and comes with a sting in the tail. Riot have confirmed that the series will conclude with this upcoming second season. But co-creator Christian Linke reassures fans that there are "many stories to tell" in the League Of Legends universe.

"Arcane is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and partnership with the wonderful animation studio that is Fortiche", he said. “From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story of Arcane wraps up with this second season. But Arcane is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.”

Arcane Season 2 will be released on Netflix in November of 2024. It is created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee. Its producers include Linke, Marc Merill and Brandon Beck. It features the voices of Hailee Steinfeld and Ella Purnell as sister Vi and Jinx. Forced apart, they end up on opposite sides as the steampunk city Piltover goes to war with the (literal) underground city Zaun. In the season one finale, Jinx launches an attack on the Piltover council, which "“sets the stage for a dire escalation of the conflict between Piltover and Zaun.”
