Love, Death + Robots Volume 4 Coming This May
Animated anthologies have a unique appeal. Able to contain a wide variety of stories and varied animation styles, they offer something no other form of media can. The most successful animated anthology of recent years is Netflix's Love, Death + Robots, which has released three 'volumes' since debuting in 2019. Netflix has now announced that the fourth volume will debut on May 15, 2025.
Created by Tim Miller and David Fincher, the sci-fi/horror/fantasy themed series has won 12 Emmy Awards, and built a significant fanbase. The new season will feature 10 all-new shorts, boasting a variety of animation techniques, including photo-realistic CG and traditional 2D animation. The series is overseen by supervising director Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Kung Fu Panda 2 and 3) and is executive produced by Miller, Fincher, Jennifer Miller, and Joshua Donen.
The new season will feature dinosaur gladiators, messianic cats, string puppet rock stars, giant babies, aliens, robots, demons and more. Expect it all to be served up with a healthy helping of sex and violence too, Love, Death + Robots is definitely not for kids. The animation is as impressive and ground-breaking as ever, too.
“I try to get a mix of horror, sci-fi, and fantasy,” said Tim Miller. “And we work with some really fucking fantastic writers and artists.”
Each episode is created by a different team of artists, and Miller, Fincher and Yuh Nelson have all directed episodes of the series. Fincher made his animation debut with the short Bad Traveling, which was part of 2022's Volume 3. We don't yet know who directed the shorts in the new season.
