Netflix Will Release Genndy Tartakovsky's 'Fixed' This August
Warner Bros. Discovery have earned a reputation for cancelling and writing off large amounts of programming. Not content with deleting 100s of hours of animation from Max, they cancelled the release of the likes of Coyote Vs Acme, Batgirl and Scooby Doo: Holiday Heist. At least in some cases they have attempted to sell the rights to other distributors, with Coyote Vs Acme eventually landing at Ketchup Entertainment. Another film that they declined to release was Genndy Tartakovsky's adult animated comedy Fixed. It has now been announced that the film has been acquired by Netflix, and will be released this summer.
Fixed is produced by Sony Pictures Animation, and marks Genndy's first foray into adult comedy. He has previously been better known for his animated action with shows such as Primal, Samurai Jack and Unicorn: Warriors Eternal.
The film follows domestic pooch Bull, who discovers his owners plan to have him neutered after he's caught humping Grandma's leg one too may times. After learning the news he assembles his loyal group of friends to have one great last night out, with the goal of declaring his love for the dog next door, Honey.
The film was co-produced by New Line Cinema (owned by Warner Bros Discovery) and was intended for a cinema release before WBD got cold feet. It's a shame we won't get the chance to see it on the big screen, but it's a relief we get to see it at all.
Genndy Tartakovsky is the director, co-writer and producer on the movie, which he based partially on the dynamic between him and his friends. “I have been friends with the same group of four guys since high school" he said."These guys make me laugh like nothing else, so I was thinking, ‘Can I translate this humour to animation?’ "
This is a rare example of a 2D animated feature in 2025. The animation style is colourful and full of wild character reactions. “I love caricatured and exaggerated animation, so I knew the sensibility that I like to do and it was a matter of dialling [up] the amount of exaggeration. I think it started out as a rated-R Lady and the Tramp, then as we got into it, it naturally became more cartoon-y and specific to itself,” said Tartakovsky. “I would say it began to really take shape as we were fortunate to hire some of the best animators working in 2D from around the world.”
Fixed features the voices of Adam Devine (Workaholics, Pitch Perfect) as Bull and Kathryn Hahn (Agatha All Along) as Honey. Also appearing is Idris Elba as self-confident Boxer-dog Rocco. Bobby Moynihan as their goofy pal Lucky and Fred Armisen as the wannabe influencer Dashhund Fetch. It also features the voices of Beck Bennett (Unfrosted), River Gallo (Ponyboi), and Michelle Buteau (Survival of the Thickest.)
Fixed will stream on Netflix from August 13, 2025.
