The series is directed and conceived by Hideya Takahashi (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Golden Wind; Urusei Yatsura). It is an original anime written by Fujiko Sakuno, with an original plot by Akuto Sato. Series composition is by Hayashi Mori, who previously worked on Drifting Home, Cells At Work: Code Black and Sand Land: The Series.
Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse Official Synopsis:
Narihira Takeru is a delinquent who often thinks about Tsukimiya, the girl who appears in his dreams. After an unexpected accident, Takeru finds himself in a parallel universe, and the world that Tsukimiya lives in. When Takeru and Tsukimiya are slain by a monster, he awakens again and realises he has leapt through time. Now, Takeru must train with Abe Seimei to fight for Tsukimiya’s life!
The series is an example of the popular isekai genre, where characters are transported to another world. Popular examples include Re: Zero, Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation, El Hazard, Overlord, Sword Art Online and Inuyasha. It takes place in an alternate version of Heian-kyō, the old name for Kyoto, and Japan's capital during the Heian era. This alternate version of the city is called Denji Heian-kyo "The Tranquil Capital of Divine Lightning".
Additional staff credits include character designs by Kazuaki Morita (Classroom of the Elite; Assassination Classroom); world and setting research by Katsuie Shibata and music composed by Masahiro Tokuda (You are Ms. Servant; One Piece Fan Letter).
The Japanese voice cast includes Narihira Takeru voiced by Taihi Kimura (Flower and Asura); Tsukimiya voiced by Maaya Uchida (My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!); Abeno Seimei voiced by Ryohei Kimura (My Happy Marriage); Astunaga voiced by Kaito Ishikawa (My Hero Academia); Yura voiced by Anna Nagase (ZENSHU); Kazura voiced by Marina Inoue (Attack on Titan) and Shino voiced by Chihaya Yoshitake (Love Live! Superstar!!).
A manga adaptation began serialisation in Kodansha's Morning Two magazine in February, written and illustrated by Fujiko Sakuno and Kyūjō Matsumoto. It's not unusual for a manga adaptation to predate the anime it's based on, often leading to confusion about which "came first".
A teaser trailer has been released, which you can view below. More details will be revealed at a later date.
