Aardman Pokémon Series Revealed, Pokémon Concierge Season 2 Trailer
The Pokémon franchise has charmed generations of kids- and a fair few 20-40somethings who grew up on it. It's fairly unusual in that it is as successful in animated form as in its original video games. Since the anime adaptation first aired in 1997 (not long after the first Game Boy game came out), the adventures of Ash, Pikachu and friends has won many fans- including those who don't even play the games. In the years that followed, Pokémon has aired multiple TV series, movies, web series and shorts. They have spanned 2D animation, 3D CG, a hybrid live-action movie (Detective Pikachu) and even stop-motion.
And for an example of the latter, The Pokémon Company is teaming up with one of the world's leading stop-motion studios: Aardman. Revealed in a recent Pokémon Direct broadcast, as part of Pokémon Tales, a series of animations and games that will expand the Pokémon mythos, is The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu. The stop-motion series from the Bristol-based studio will be released in 2027.
The series will centre on the characters of Sirfetch’d and Pichu, a pair of Pokémon. They will be front and centre as the heroes of the show, which will be set in a region that trainers will have visited before- one that is very close to Aardman's heart. The series promises to offer a fresh perspective on the Pokémon world. Told from the perspective of the Pokémon themselves, with the trademark Aardman sense of character, comedy and craft.
The debut trailer gives us a little taster of the show's style. It feels a little different from your typical Aardman series, but it definitely seems to be bringing a fresh style to the Pokémon franchise. It features a Wooloo, a sheep-like Pokémon, which is likely a nudge and a wink towards Shaun The Sheep, one of Aardman's most successful series. Sirfetch'd and Pichu meanwhile, barely feature in their own teaser.
