'Ne Zha 2' English Trailer Arrives

Back in 2019, the Chinese animated film Ne Zha broke multiple records. Going on to become the highest-grossing Chinese animated film, it also became the highest-grossing non-American animated film, and one of the highest-grossing films at the global box-office. This success would ultimately be dwarfed by the release of the sequel, Ne Zha 2, in 2025. The sequel continued to break multiple records, both in China and worldwide. It has gone on to take over $2.2 billion to date, making it the highest-grossing animated film of all time. It has also broken the record for the biggest haul taken by a film in a single country. It places it as the highest-grossing non-English-language film in history, and the fifth highest-grossing film of all time. What makes it all the more impressive is the fact that the vast majority of the total comes from China alone.

There have been some screenings of the film in the West earlier in the year, but this summer it's set to return to cinemas with a brand new English dub. China's CMC Pictures are teaming up with distributor A24 to bring it to IMAX and standard cinemas in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

The dub will feature the iconic Michelle Yeoh, alongside Crystal Lee, Vincent Rodriguez III, and Aleks Le. The film is written and directed by Yu Yang, and is produced by Enlight Pictures.

Like the original, Ne Zha 2 is drawn from ancient Chinese mythology. Following a catastrophe, the souls of Ne Zha and Aobing are saved, but their bodies would soon be shattered. It's up to Taiyi Zhenren to use the seven-coloured lotus to rebuild their bodies.

A24 have unveiled a new English trailer, giving us our first look at the dub. The trailer showcases the film's impressive visuals, as well as showing off its sense of humour and emotional side. All in all it's looking impressive- whether you've seen the original or not.

Ne Zha 2's English version will debut in cinemas in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand on August 22, 2025. Check out the trailer, below.
