Pixar's 'Hoppers' Teaser Trailer Will Charm Your Socks Off

Pixar's fortunes have been decidedly mixed of late. Inside Out 2 made a billion dollars worldwide, but they had less success with this year's Elio, which was their biggest flop to date. It might look that the studio is resting on their laurels and playing it safe with sequels like Toy Story 5, Incredibles 3 and Coco 2 in their future. But they are still risking it by producing originals as well, and will be hoping to turn it around with next spring's release Hoppers.

Hoppers is directed by Daniel Chong (best known as the creator of We Bare Bears). The film follows a young animal lover called Mabel who gets the chance to use a new technology to connect with wildlife in a whole new way.

"In 'Hoppers,' the question we're answering is: ‘What if we could understand and communicate with the animal world?’” says Chong. “Our main character, Mabel, gets to discover the animal kingdom as an animal, which can be weird and often hilarious. Mabel undercover in the animal world leads to a wild, roller coaster ride of a movie, with all the heart you expect from a classic Pixar film. It's going to be so much fun to watch in the cinema; I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

In the film scientists have discovered a way for a human consciousness to 'hop' into a lifelike animal robot. Controlling the robot they can communicate with and understand animals as animals, in a process that it must be pointed out is nothing like Avatar. Using the new technology, Mabel infiltrates her local pond as a beaver. She will uncover mysteries in the animal kingdom that are beyond what she could have imagined in her wildest dreams.

The film stars the voices of Piper Curda as Mabel, and also features the voices of Bobby Moynihan and Jon Hamm. It is produced by Nicole Paradis Grindle. The screenplay is penned by Chong with Jesse Andrews (Luca, Me and Earl and The Dying Girl).

Pixar have released the teaser trailer, and it looks like it's set to live up to its fun concept. Mable is an instantly likeable protagonist, and that's before she becomes an adorable robotic beaver. The sequence where she actually 'hops' for the first time is fantastic, as she realises she can talk with the animals. Then there's a hilarious sequence featuring a hapless beaver and a bear. This looks very promising indeed.

Hoppers bounds into cinemas on March 6, 2026
