[SDCC] Adult Swim Announces 'President Curtis' Spin-Off

At this year's San Diego Comic Con, Adult Swim announced a brand new series. The announcement was a surprise during this year's regular Rick and Morty SDCC panel. The reason being, that this new series is a spin-off, set in the Rick and Morty universe. And it will star the fan favourite character of Rick's sometimes-friend, sometimes-nemesis, President Curtis.

The announcement followed a surprise appearance at the panel by Keith David, legendary actor and voice of Curtis. The series is co-created by Rick and Morty executive producers Dan Harmon and James Siciliano. Keith David will reprise his role as President Curtis, and be joined by Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Encanto) and Jim Rash (Community)

President Curtis follows the Commander-in-Chief and his eccentric staff as they deal with the kind of things that Rick Sanchez would never be bothered with- from intergalactic diplomacy to paranormal investigations and unexplained phenomena. And we wouldn't count out the occasional appearance from Rick, or Morty, or any other character from the original show.

“President Curtis has always been a blast to play,” said David.  “Getting to explore his world more deeply in this new series is a dream. I can’t wait for fans to see what kind of chaos he stirs up when Rick isn’t around to steal the spotlight.”

“This is a series we would have greenlit even if it didn’t have anything at all to do with ‘Rick and Morty,’” said Michael Ouweleen, president, Adult Swim. “President Andre Curtis is just that good of a character. The rest of the world the team has fleshed out is super fun and totally stands on its own. We can’t wait for you to see it.”

“President Curtis has always been one of our favourite characters to write — he’s the only person in the multiverse who can go toe-to-toe with Rick and still hold office,” said Harmon and Siciliano. “Now we finally get to go on sci-fi missions from Curtis’ point of view. And with Keith David leading the charge, it’s going to be a wild ride.”

Harmon and Siciliano will also serve as executive producers, alongside Danielle Uhlarik, Monica Mitchell and Steve Levy.

No release date has been announced for President Curtis, so we would imagine this could be quite a way off. Luckily, Rick and Morty fans are well used to waiting by now.
