Thunderbirds Return To UK Cinemas in 4K For 60th Anniversary
If you grew up in the UK sometime in the last sixty years or so, you're probably familiar with Thunderbirds. Gerry Anderson's iconic puppet sci-fi adventure was brought to life in Supermarionation, a groundbreaking puppetry technique. If you're not British, you might more likely recognise the style from Team America: World Police, the Trey Parker and Matt Stone movie that parodied the style.
To mark Thunderbirds' 60th Anniversary Anderson Entertainment and Kaleidoscope Entertainment are bringing a double-bill of the most beloved episodes to UK cinemas, in expertly restored 4K UHD. The episodes are Trapped In The Sky and Terror In New York.
Bursting with action, suspense and expert puppetry and model work, the episodes showcase International Rescue at their very best. They feature daring rescues, stunning practical effects and unforgettable characters.
The episodes are making their worldwide debut in the 4K restoration. Both episodes have been meticulously restored from the best available film elements in collaboration with the restoration experts Silver Salt. The result is described as the ultimate viewing experience, presented in exquisite detail and with a new 5.1 sound mix for a suitably epic cinematic experience.
The dramatic plot of the included episodes features the danger of a sabotaged atomic airliner in Trapped In The Sky and a dramatic mission to save New York from danger in Terror In New York.
“Even back in 1965, Dad and his amazing teams made each episode of Thunderbirds feel like a mini movie - huge stories, stunning models, and that unmistakable sense of adventure," said Jamie Anderson, CEO of Anderson Entertainment.
"To see them newly restored in 4K and back on the big screen, marking classic Thunderbirds' return to cinemas for the first time since 1968, and on the show’s 60th anniversary, is something really special. I’m very proud to be able to share them with audiences across the UK.”
Thunderbirds will be arriving in UK cinemas on September 20. FAB!
Trapped In the Sky
The first episode of classic Thunderbirds. Master criminal the Hood plants a bomb on board the new atomic-powered airliner Fireflash before it departs on its maiden flight. Unable to land for fear of setting off the bomb, the crew and passengers' only hope of survival lies with International Rescue.
Terror In New York City
Largely regarded as the most exciting Thunderbirds episode made, after Thunderbird 2 is heavily damaged in a mistaken attack, it leaves the team seemingly without a swift means to transport any rescue gear to New York City to save a news crew trapped underneath the collapsed Empire State Building.
