Vue Cinemas Celebrate Anime This August

Western anime fans are living in a golden age. Not only is virtually every show available via streaming at the click of a button, but there is also more anime movies on the big screen than ever before. Vue Cinemas in the UK are celebrating anime this month, with a trio of anime features ahead of the September release of Demon Slayer The Movie: Infinity Castle.
Arriving on September 12, the movie is the latest spin-off from the hugely popular Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba franchise. It is both the sequel to the previous Demon Slayer Movie: Mugen Train, and the first part of a trilogy that will bring the series to a conclusion. The film sees demon slaying trio Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke return to face their most fearsome enemies yet "in a film that blends heart-pounding action, emotional intensity, and breathtaking animation," says Vue. Tickets go on sale next week.
For those who can't wait til September for their anime fix, Vue Cinemas will be screening two films from anime auteur Mamoru Hosoda. Summer Wars and Wolf Children have both been newly remastered in 4K, and will offer the chance to see the films like they have never been seen before.
Screening from August 3, Summer Wars is a very timely story of a shy maths genius who unwittingly unleashes a rogue AI that threatens the world's digital infrastructure. As he races to fix the chaos, he is drawn into the chaotic but loving world of his friend's extended family. "Hosoda’s dazzling animation, pulse-pounding virtual sequences, and timely message about connection and technology make this re-release a must-see on the big screen," Vue says.
Returning on August 17, Wolf Children is a timeless story of love, loss and growing up. It spans over a decade, and features a young woman who is raising two children who are half human, half wolf. The story captures the challenges of motherhood, acceptance and identity. In the newly remastered edition, it looks better than ever before.
Hitting screens on August 31 meanwhile is Colourful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can't Sing. A bold new chapter in the Hatsune Miku virtual idol phenomenon, the film introduces us to a Miku who has lost her ability to sing. Set in a world where music shapes reality, Miku must rediscover her voice through friendship, creativity and emotional resilience. The film blends musical performances with a moving narrative to create a spectacular experience for Miku fans and newcomers alike.
Rachel Bland, Senior Screen Content Manager at Vue said “The anime fandom continues to grow here in the UK, and we’re proud to be part of that community. Studios put their heart into every frame - from the breathtaking animation to the thoughtful scripts, musical scores, and emotional depth - and we recognise that watching anime isn’t just about the visuals on screen; it’s about the atmosphere, the sound, and the feeling of being completely immersed in a story. That’s why we’re so excited to be screening these films as they were meant to be seen - on the big screen.”
