Animated Doc 'Endless Cookie' Gets A Trailer

One underappreciated use of animation is in documentary. Many documentaries utilise animation for illustration purposes or to make them more visually dynamic. The upcoming Endless Cookie is a rare thing: a fully animated documentary.

The new film from Seth and Pete Scriver has been painstakingly assembled over the last eight years. Described as "a particularly tangential fever dream" that depicts episodes from the brothers' lives, from their upbringing in Downtown Toronto’s Kensington Market to Pete's current residence in an isolated Northern Manitoba First Nation community. As they reminisce, their stories are frequently hijacked by the charismatic members of their family. Endless Cookie is an impressionistic and sometimes surreal film about family but is also a documentary on the creative process.

Pete and Seth are brothers. Pete is a First Nations carver, poet, mechanic and storyteller livng in Shamattawa. He recently won a Hero Award for rescuing a neighbour from a house fire. Seth is an artist, animator and carpenter living in Toronto. He won the Best Canadian First Feature at TIFF in 2013 for his animated film Asphalt Watches that he created with Shayne Ehman

The film is directed by Seth Scriver and Peter Scriver and written by Seth Scriver. It is produced by Seth Scriver, Dan Bekerman, Jason Ryle, Chris Yurkovich, and Alex Ordanis. Neil Mathieson and Jordan Hart are Executive producers.

Endless Cookie has already won several awards including the Golden Alexander, at the Thessaloniki Documentary FestivalThe Contrechamp Jury Award, Annecy International Animation Film Festival, The Rogers Audience Award for Best Canadian Feature, 2025 Hot Docs Festival,Golden Dove for Best Feature Animation, Dok Leipzik and Best Documentary at Sitges Film Festival. The film is competing in both documentary and animation categories, and is hoping to compete that way at next year's Oscars.
