Web Animation Watch brings you the best in online animation: independent shorts, student films, commissioned films, music videos and more!
If you have created something you would like to see featured here, or if you're just a fan who has found something cool- drop us a line. No AI films, please!

Deep Rooted
English animator
Duncan Rudd is a
bit of a whizz with Blender. He used the open-source software to
produce this film, his follow-up to the ace
The Ballad Of Pale Blue Dot, which screened at last year's
Manchester Animation Festival. Deep Rooted is a story about unfettered
greed and its consequences. The animation is fantastic, featuring gorgeous
landscapes and cute critters and the film is a fine example of dialogue-free
storytelling. Inspiring stuff.
Ducks
Artist and animator AJ Jefferies of Moonjam presents an unexpected tale of everybody's favourite
pond-dwelling quackers. Taking tranquil park life and turning it into a
nightmareish horror, Jefferies created something quite unique. Before its
online bow, the film won numerous awards, including most recently a Special
Mention at
Animated Encounters.
Sound Of The Sea
Never mind what Sebastian sang about, under the sea is a world of
beauty, wonder and danger. Marine Biologist Mary discovers this
firsthand when she is trapped in a submersible with depleting oxygen. As she
discovers the beauty and the sound of the sea, she is able to find
tranquillity in what seems like her final moments. This 2D animated film from
animator/illustrator
Jeon Seok Young covers pretty profound and heavy stuff but puts a surprising spin on it that
prevents in from feeling depressing. That's pretty impressive storytelling.
The Lumins
Entirely created in needle-felt, this short film follows the journey of felt
creatures Arra, Bebe and Gigi, after they come magically to
life and start searching for a home. Created and crafted by Chelsea Trousdale
and Jonny Trousdale and directed by Jonny. Produced in association
with Lightbox Expo, the film is a love letter to hand-made art, craft
and bringing characters to life.
Equmi
Instagram artist Equmi specialises in short animations that depict her life with a cat "with main character syndrome." The micro-shorts have an extremely appealing art style and are cute and very funny. Much like the now legendary Simon's Cat, cat owners will find its depiction of feline behaviour to be extremely relatable. Or at least we did. Check out her profile for more kitty chaos.
Love Letter To A Dungeon Master (Music Video)
Ingenious Aussie musical comedian
Tom Cardy is back with
a new track, this time with a nerdy Dungeons And Dragons gamer
addressing his good lady, the Dungeon Master. The accompanying animation
features a pretty accurate cartoon version of Cardy and some really ambitious
fantasy visuals. And dragons, lots of dragons. Cardy has released animated
music videos of his songs before, and it's frankly a perfect combination. This
time, animation is produced by
Scum House, an indie animation collective "headed by Hannah, Arnold, Shaggy, and
Lars."
