Ghibli News: Princess Kaguya Release Details, Marnie Full Trailer and Music hits iTunes

Hayao Miyazaki may have retired from the directing biz, but Ghibli, the studio he co-founded seems to been entering this new era with confidence. A hat-trick of excellent news for western Ghibli-watchers has hit in the last few days alone. First up, North American distributor GKIDS has announced their release details for The Tale of Princess Kaguya- the much-anticipated return of Miyazaki's co-founder Isao Takahata . The movie has been given an October 17th release for the US and Canada, in a move GKIDS hopes to put in line for an Oscar Nomination next year. The English voice-cast will be led by Kick-Ass star Chloe Grace Moretz, and will also feature James Marsden Glee's Darren Criss, Lucy Liu and the legendary James Caan. Hopefully, now the US release has been confirmed details about a UK release (presumably via Studio Canal) will not be far behind.

Meanwhile Ghibli's next movie is gearing up for release this month in Japan. In stark contrast to the way many US studios do things, When Marnie Was There is out July 19th and we are only now getting the full-length trailer. Naturally, the film looks drop dead gorgeous, and you'd expect nothing less from the guys and girls at Ghibli. Check it out below

The dialogue from the trailer has been translated by ANN:

Anna: In this world, there's a magic circle that no one else can see. There's an inside and outside to that circle, and I'm one of the outsiders. But that doesn't matter. I... hate myself.
Text: I'm waiting for you at that creek. Forever...
Text: A work by director Hiromasa Yonebayashi
Text: Omoide no Marnie (When Marnie Was There)
Marnie: Are you OK?
Anna: Yeah.
Anna: Are you really a human? You look exactly like the girl who appeared in my dream...
Marnie: Dream? This isn't a dream.
Marnie: Hey, please promise me. Let's keep our friendship a secret.
Anna: Yeah. It's a secret. Forever.
Text: I love you so much.
Anna: Marnie... That's too cruel!
Marnie: Anna! My beloved Anna!
Anna: Why did you leave me!? Why did you betray me!?
Marnie: Anna, please! Please tell me you forgive me!
Anna: Of course I forgive you! I like you! Marnie!

Finally, according to a tweet via the official Ghibli International account,  the studio announced that their back catalogue of albums is now on iTunes "everywhere". A quick check shows it's on the US, Canada and UK stores at least. The collection ranges from Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind, right up to Marnie, and the prices are in line with most albums on the service. The days when Ghibli fans has to rely on pricey imports to get their aural fix are fortunately well and truly behind us.
