'Trollhunters' Coming This Christmas, First Trailer Arrives

Ever since we found out Guillermo del Toro was teaming up with DreamWorks Animation to bring us the new series Trollhunters, we've been eagerly awaiting its arrival. Aside from a couple of scant details and a picture here or there, details on the new series have been pretty thin on the ground. Until now, that is...

The mighty GDT himself was in attendance at the recent New York ComicCon to present a panel on the new series. The lucky attendees even got to see the first episode before anybody else. The rest of us don't need to feel too bad though, as they also confirmed the release date- December 23rd 2016. The first trailer has also now been released.

As our first look at the series in action, it's looking mightily impressive. The CG animation is definitely above the standard you might expect for TV quality animation, and the character designs look appealing. The voice-acting also looks (sounds?) top notch, especially Kelsey Grammar, and the late Anton Yelchin.

It's got a great sense of fun and adventure, and the tone reminds of some of the best movies of the 80s (could this be a family friendly sibling of Stranger Things?). In other words... we're well and truly on board (as if we weren't already).

Trollhunters is the story of Jim Lake Jr (Yelchin) who discovers another world below his hometown, where good and evil trolls are engaged in a constant clash. It is based on a book series by del Toro and will star Anton Yelchin, Kelsey Grammar, Ron Perlman and Steven Yeun.
