Alex Hirsch Signs Exclusive Series and Movie Deal With Netflix

Netflix's moves to become one of the biggest players in animation globally continues to attract some of the medium's foremost talents. The latest big name to ink a deal with the world's biggest subscription streaming service is none other than Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch.

Hirsch has come on board to produce both new series and feature films as part of a multi-year deal. Interestingly, the series and films he will be producing will be aimed at an adult audience.

We've not seen any new animation from Hirsch since Gravity Falls wrapped up in early 2016. He previously signed a deal to develop new series at Fox, but it would seem that nothing came out of it.

"Alex is an imaginative storyteller with new ideas who’s quickly developed a reputation as a fresh new voice in animation," said Netflix's VP of Original Content, Cindy Holland. "We couldn’t be more excited to work with him as we continue expanding our adult animated slate."

"I couldn’t be more excited to join the amazing roster of talent coming to Netflix" Hirsch adds. "Plus it couldn’t hurt to be on The Algorithm’s good side before The Singularity hits. Awesome things are coming!"

Considering the creative freedom that Netflix seems to allow, and Hirsch's considerable talent, we'd say this is very much something to be excited about. Hirsch joins an impressive line-up of animation greats working with the platform, including Matt Groening, Henry Selick, Glen Keane, and more.
