Shout! Factory Acquires Distribution Rights To Bill Plympton's Library

The word 'legend' gets thrown around a lot these days. But it seems appropriate to label Bill Plympton a legend of independent animation. Over more than 40 years Plympton has followed his own path, starting as an illustrator and creating more than 50 shorts and seven independent feature films. And he's never compromised his vision, making distinctive hand-drawn animation for adults that has earned him a following and respect from his peers. His shorts have earned him two Oscar nominations, and he has won a Webby Award for his satirical series Trump Bites. He was even given the ultimate accolade- being asked to create a Couch Gag for The Simpsons!

American distributor Shout! Factory has announced that is has acquired the digital and broadcast rights to Plympton's library for North America. The company plans to release the features and shorts across various platforms, starting later this year.

The deal includes all his features including I Married A Strange Person and his most recent films Cheatin' and Revengance, and more than 50 shorts.

This deal means that Plympton's work will potentially be seen by more people than ever before- but we'll have to wait for more information as to what format their releases will take.

With this announcement following deals with GKIDS Films and Eleven Arts, Shout! Factory is fast becoming one of the animation fan's best friends in America.
