Out This Week: Wicked City, Akira 4K Steven Universe and More
This week's list of home entertainment releases features an impressive crop of highly regarded anime. UK readers can be among the first to pick up the 4K restoration of Akira in a deluxe edition that comes ahead of Funimation's release in the US in a couple of weeks. The UK's Manga Entertainment also release some old school anime urban horror from renowned studio Madhouse with the Blu-Ray double feature of Wicked City and Demon City Shinjuku, and a trio of Shonen Jump series. Masaaki Yuasa's award-winning Ride Your Wave also arrives on standard Blu-Ray and DVD, following a delay from the original planned release date.
Titles arriving in the US this week include
Kyoto Animation's beautifully animated
Violet Evergarden and Gonzo's 7 Seed, both
previously only available outside Japan on Netflix. Outside anime (but
still heavily influenced by it) Rebecca Sugar's Cartoon Network series
Steven Universe gets a complete boxset, containing not only the
complete original series but also the follow up limited series
Steven Universe Future and the movie that bridges them.
Unfortunately, though, it's DVD only.
