Marvel Studios' What If...? Arrives This December

After an unprecedented run of success, Marvel Studios has had a very mixed year. It has had successes like Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3 and Loki Season 2 and flops like The Marvels and Secret Invasion. Marvel will be hoping that their final release of the year will be in the former camp.

Marvel Studios' What If...? season two continues the first animated series to be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Based on the classic line of comics, it explores how events in the MCU could have turned out differently. The first season answered questions like "What if Peggy Carter became the first Avenger?"; "What if T'Challa became Star Lord ?;" and "What if.. zombies?"

Jeffrey Wright returns as The Watcher, the Celestial who acts as the narrator or our guide to the events of the multiverse. The series questions, twists and revisits key moments from Marvel's Cinematic history. And it boasts an incredible voice cast, with the majority of the actors reprising their roles. This season sees appearances from fan-favourite characters like Nebula, Happy Hogan, Ant Man, Captain Carter, Rocket Racoon and Black Panther.

What If...? is directed by executive producer Bryan Andrews with executive producer A.C. Bradley as head writer.

The first season appeared to be an unconnected anthology but turned out to be building up to a big cross-over multiverse event at the climax. Will the new episodes be completely standalone or will they again be part of a bigger story? The trailer certainly seems to be hinting towards the latter, as the Watcher warns us: "things have gotten a little twisted in the multiverse".

Disney is bringing us an Early Christmas present and will be releasing the new season as a special nine-day event. It will be released on Disney Plus one episode a day from December 22. And it looks like at least one episode will be Christmas-themed too!
