Cardiff Animation Announce August Animation Events



Cardiff Animation is an organisation that holds animation events and screenings in Cardiff and throughout Wales. Starting off with the regular Cardiff Animation Nights screenings, they evolved into Cardiff Animation Festival, one of the UK's largest animation events. They also hold events throughout the year, and have announced several for August 2025.

Cardiff Animation Nights Online

Cardiff Animation Nights is online this month, so that means you can take part from anywhere in the world. The screening will take place live on YouTube on Thursday, 28 August and features a curated hour of the best indie animated shorts from the festival circuit from around the world.

Films start at 8 PM BST, you can watch from wherever you are, and you are welcome to join in with the accompanying live chat.


Inbetweens: Queer Animated Shorts

Cardiff Animation Festival presents in association with Skwigly Online Animation Magazine and Chapter : an evening of contemporary animated short films exploring LGBTQIA+ themes and stories.

Curated by local animator and illustrator Luzie Ilgner, the screening celebrates Queer filmmakers and storytelling through animation.

All films with dialogue will be screened with open captions.

The screening takes place on Saturday, 23 August, and is recommended for ages 18 and up. You can buy tickets from here.


CAF On Tour: The Princess and The Goblin

Revisit the cult Welsh animated feature The Princess and The Goblin with a rare outing on the big screen- in Welsh! The film was originally released in 1991 and was a collaboration between Wales and Hungary, and this marks the first time it has screened in cinemas across Wales. The tour starts this week and runs through to October.

While playing in the woods, Princess Irene is attacked by Goblins. She is saved by a warrior named Curty. When the Goblins attack the kingdom and capture Curty, Irene must use magic to save them.

Following the screening, there will be a chance to look at original animation cels, hand-drawn concept art and oil paintings from the film.
