GKIDS Films and Fathom Announce Summer Event Anime Screenings

With the vaccination roll-out well underway in the United States, a return to normal life is starting to look not so far away. One aspect of normal life that many people are most looking forward to is the prospect of a return to cinemas. Whether it's your local independent or a 12-screen multiplex, the experience of watching a film on the big screen with a room full of fellow movie-goers is something that film lovers have missed over the last year.

GKIDS Films and Fathom Events are teaming up once again to celebrate the return to cinemas by bringing four recent anime hits back to the big screen this summer.  The season will open with Studio 4°C's Children Of The Sea on June 13 and 15. This will actually be the majority of people in the US's first chance to see this film in theaters as its original release had to be canceled last year. Next up, Makoto Shinkai's fantasy teen romance Weathering With You will get an encore presentation on July 25 and 27.

Iconic gentleman thief Lupin III's debut CGI features Lupin III: The First follows on August 29 and 31. Although GKIDS did release the film in available cinemas late last year, this will still be the first opportunity for most US viewers to catch it on the big screen.

The season will close out with one of GKIDS' most successful non-Studio Ghibli releases. Trigger's debut feature release Promare will screen on September 16 and 19.  Each film will screen in original langauge with subtitles on one night and in English-dubbed format for the other.  Weathering With You, Lupin III, and Promare will also be offered as 4DX screenings where available. The screenings will also include exclusive bonus content (such as interviews, shorts or featurettes).

Tickets for all screenings will go on sale May 14 via participating box-office or via GKIDS.
