Annecy Reveals Feature Line-Up and Screening Events For 2022 Festival

After two years of virtual editions, Annecy International Animation Festival is back in person for 2022. The next edition of what is arguably the leading event of its kind is now mere weeks away.  We've already covered this year's selection of shorts, TV and commissioned films- and now the feature film and VR selections have also been revealed, along with special screening events.

This year's feature selection includes a couple of long-awaited titles in the form of Unicorn Wars, Alberto Vazquez's follow-up to Birdboy And The Forgotten Children and Signe Bauman's My Love Affair With Marriage.  Also returning to the festival this year is acclaimed Romanian animator Anca Damian (Marona's Fantastic Tale), whose latest feature The Island is also selected.

The festival will open with a special screening of Minions: The Rise Of Gru, which is screening out of competition. Lucky attendees will also get the chance to get work-in-progress presentations of major films including Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, My Father's Dragon, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, Gremlins: Secret Of The Mogwai and the upcoming Disney film Strange World.

Festival-goers will also be among the first to see Pixar's Lightyear and Netflix's Sea Beast, both of which are screening out of competition. From the independent and international side of things, there is also a chance to catch Hong Kong filmmaker Yonfan Yonfan's 10 Cherry Lane, sequel Ernest and Celestine, A Trip To Gibbertia and anime Sing A Bit Of Harmony. Open-air screenings are also returning this year, so there will be the chance to watch Sing 2, Max and Co and Azur & Asmar: The Prince’s Quest in a beautiful location surrounded by other animation lovers.

In addition, there will be the usual array of panels and presentations, which will include 'Recruiter Sessions' held by Illumination, Cartoon Saloon and Fortiche Productions, as well as special preview presentations held by Disney and Netflix Animation.

This year's festival will take place from June 13-18. For the full selection and more information see here.
